열두 달 · Twelve Months

Hwatu (화투) are Korean flower cards: twelve months, four cards each, and every month has its own plant. Pair cards from the same month and learn their Korean names as you play.

Everyone gets the same deal today.

The four cards of 일월 (January) all show pine, 소나무.

How to play

  1. Two cards make a pair when they are from the same month: look for the same plant.
  2. Make every pair you can among the open cards, then draw from the deck. A drawn card with no partner goes into the row, and only the two ends of the row can be used.
  3. Tap or focus any card to see its Korean names. When all four cards of a month land on one pile, you learn that month’s word.

Keys: Tab moves between cards, Enter or Space picks one, D draws a card, H gives a hint.
