What is this?
이거 · 그거 · 저거 (이/그/저 + N)
This, that, that over there
Why now: your bag, your desk, your whole classroom are full of things you cannot name yet — pointing words let you talk about them anyway.
Korean has three words for "this / that", and the choice depends on where the thing is from both speakers, not only from you. 이 is near me (the speaker), 그 is near you (the listener), and 저 is far from both of us. Add 거 ("thing") to point at an object: 이거, 그거, 저거. 거 is the spoken form; in careful writing the word is 것 (이것, 그것, 저것). The same three words also go in front of a noun: 이 시계 ("this watch"), 그 책 ("that book"), 저 의자 ("that chair over there"). Use 이거 / 그거 / 저거 when you point without naming the thing; use 이 / 그 / 저 + noun when you name it. Do not combine them: 이거 시계 is wrong — say 이 시계, or make a sentence: 이거 시계예요 ("this is a watch"). For people, do not use 이거 / 그거 / 저거 — say 이 사람, 그 사람, 저 사람: 저 사람이 누구예요? (저거 누구예요? calls the person a thing and sounds rude).

은/는 vs 이/가 — the real difference
Now you have both particles. Use 은/는 for the topic: it names what you are talking about — often something already known, something you contrast, or a new topic you switch to. Use 이/가 for the subject: it points at the one that fills the gap in a question, so 뭐가 있어요? is answered with 책이 있어요. It also marks something new you are just bringing in: 가방이 있어요 ("there's a bag"). A contrast ("the book, yes; the eraser, no") uses 은/는: 책은 있어요. 지우개는 없어요. Hoya does the same in the scene: 지우개는… 없어요. Three special subject forms are worth memorising: 저 + 가 → 제가 (I), 나 + 가 → 내가 (I, casual), 누구 + 가 → 누가 (who). The topic forms 저는, 나는 and 누구는 stay regular. The pair below is a classic: the first answers "What about you?", the second answers "Who is the student here?" — "I am."

제 가방이에요.
제 already means “my” — it is 저의 squeezed into one syllable. Adding 의 says it twice.
