Late night, Room 302, warm-yellow vinyl floor, lamp on. Hoya kneels on the mattress in front of a neat row of three things lined up on the floor like soldiers — the alarm clock, his phone, the rice cooker.

The story opens

  1. 일요일 밤이에요. 지금은 열한 시예요.

    Sunday night. Eleven o'clock.

  2. 내일은 월요일이에요. 호야의 일은 월요일부터예요.

    Tomorrow is Monday. Hoya's job starts Monday.

  3. 편의점 일은 아침 아홉 시부터 오후 한 시까지예요.

    The store shift is from nine in the morning until one in the afternoon.
