V-아서/어서 (sequence)
Do this, then that
-아서/어서 links two steps that belong together: the second happens where the first left you, or with what it gave you. 내려서 갈아타요 — get off, and there, change trains. Only the last verb carries the tense. For two separate actions, -고 is enough.

서울역에서 내려서 사호선으로 갈아타세요.
Get off at Seoul Station and change to Line 4.
친구를 만나서 같이 영화를 봤어요.

학교까지 걸어서 가요.
