N에 비해

N에 비해(서) means “compared with N”. The thing you compare against always takes 에, never 을/를. It is a little more formal than N보다, which you learned in Level 2, and it is common in news and articles.

Examples

  • 작년에 비해 물가가 많이 올랐어요.

    Prices have gone up a lot compared with last year.

  • 이 가게는 다른 가게에 비해 싸요.

    This shop is cheap compared with the others.

  • 온라인 쇼핑은 가게에 가는 것에 비해 시간이 덜 걸려요.

    Shopping online takes less time than going to a shop.
