V-다가 (switch)
Doing …, then switching
In Unit 5 you met -다가 for something that happens in the middle of an action. Here the focus is the switch: you stop one action part-way and change to another — you walk for a while, then go by bike. Both parts have the same subject, and the tense goes on the last verb.
Examples
걷다가 자전거를 탔어요.
I walked for a while, then switched to a bike.
책을 읽다가 텔레비전을 봤어요.
I was reading, then switched to watching TV.
학교에 가다가 집으로 다시 돌아왔어요.
I was on my way to school, then turned back home.
