-(으)ㄹ수록
The more …, the more …
-(으)ㄹ수록 means “the more …”, and it is often doubled with -(으)면: 알면 알수록, “the more you know”. Use -ㄹ수록 after a vowel or ㄹ and -을수록 after a consonant. It never takes a past tense, even in a story about the past.
| When | Use | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ends in a vowel or ㄹ | -ㄹ수록 | 갈수록 · 알수록 |
| ends in a consonant | -을수록 | 먹을수록 · 많을수록 |
| doubled | -(으)면 -(으)ㄹ수록 | 알면 알수록 · 먹으면 먹을수록 |
