-(으)ㄹ게 (review)

I'll … (a promise)

In native review Taught in Unit 10: Hoya reads the letter

-(으)게요 from Level 2 promises what you yourself will do. Without 요, -(으)게 is the 반말 version, for close friends and family — Hoya says it to his great-grandmother the way grandchildren often talk to grandparents they are close to. It is only ever about your own action: never in a question, never with -시-, never about someone else.

Examples

  • 이제 내가 읽을게.

    I'll read it now.

  • 답장은 한글로 쓸게요.

I'll write the reply in Hangul.

  • 도착하는 대로 연락할게.

I'll message you as soon as I get there.
