V-아/어 있다
The state that stays behind
'the window opened' is the event, but what Hoya and Sori actually find is a window that IS open. Korean has its own ending for the result of a change. You know -고 있다 (in progress); this is its twin with a different job.
Example
문이 잠겨 있어서 들어갈 수 없어요.
The door is locked, so I can't go in.
