기록에 의하면 세종대왕께서 천사백사십육 년 음력 구월에 훈민정음을 세상에 알리셨대요. 그 무렵의 날짜를 지금 달력으로 계산해서 시월 구일을 한글날로 정했다고 해요.
According to the records, King Sejong made Hunminjeongeum known to the world in the ninth lunar month of 1446. They say the date was worked out on today's calendar, and 9 October was chosen as Hangul Day.
