What you can do after Level 7
- In a debate, grant the other side's point, then argue back (-다손 치더라도, N을/를 차치하고, -다 뿐이지; 반면, 그럼에도 불구하고).
- Follow a lecture and put its argument (claim, grounds, counterexample, conclusion) into an outline (-(으)ㄹ 바(가) 없다; 요컨대, 이를테면, 다시 말해).
- Read a policy article and summarise its causes and effects (N에 힘입어, N을/를 위시하여; 그도 그럴 것이, 결국).
- Say precisely that something can't happen, leaves no room, or isn't needed; describe recurring situations in everyday speech (-(으)ㄹ 리 만무하다, -(으)ㄹ 여지가 없다, -(으)ㄹ 것까지는 없다; -(으)ㄹ라치면, -거니 -거니, -느니 -느니, -는 듯 마는 듯).
- Know the introduction-body-conclusion shape of an academic report and write a 1,000-character draft (-고자 하는 바; 한편).
- Judge a reviewer's attitude, and write a review using comparison, classification and analysis (-답시고, -(이)라야).
- Pick out the speaker's intent and attitude in documentary narration and current-affairs talk.
- Narrow a disagreement in a meeting with hesitation and softened phrasing (-(으)ㄴ/는 듯싶다; -는 측면이 있다, -다고 볼 수 있다, -는 것도 무리가 아니다, -(으)ㄹ 필요가 있어 보인다).
- Join two clauses in writing with -(으)나.
- Recognise -(으)ㄹ진대 and -(으)련마는 in speeches and essays.
- Write a TOPIK 54 essay (600–700 characters) in 30 minutes with an introduction, development and conclusion, and check it against an observation checklist.
