Setting the scene

sentences in real conversation rarely go straight to the point. -는데 lets you give the background first, then ask, ask for help, or contrast.

Example

한국 음식을 만들고 싶은데 어떤 책이 좋아요?
I want to cook Korean food — which book would be good?
