In case…, worried that…
Taught in Level 3, Unit 5: The more I know her, the more I like her
this unit is about change and hope. The other side of a hope is a worry: 'I was scared I'd get lost', 'I took an umbrella in case it rained'. -(으)ㄹ까 봐(서) gives the worry behind what you did.
Example
비가 올까 봐 우산을 가져왔어요.
I brought an umbrella in case it rained.
