V-는 대신에
Instead of… / in return, to make up for…
a plan is always a trade — study three hours a day instead of ten, tea instead of coffee. Korean marks the trade with one word, 대신, and it has two related meanings.
Example
오늘은 커피 대신에 차를 마실래요.
Today I'll have tea instead of coffee.
