We'll now begin the residents' debate group. Today's motion is 'Take one traffic lane off the main road in our neighbourhood and widen the pavement.' Anna speaks for the motion, Hoya against.

Today there's one more rule. Before you rebut, first grant the other side's argument in one sentence. The speaking order is the opening statement for the motion, the opening statement against, then the counter-rebuttals. Please finish when the bell rings.

I'll give the opening statement for the motion. The pavement on the main road is so narrow that two people can hardly walk side by side. When a pushchair or a wheelchair comes past, pedestrians have to step down into the road, and walking there becomes that much more dangerous.
