I saw it, and then… (a witnessed change)
Taught in Level 4, Unit 6: Pop culture
to tell what you watched happen to someone else — a friend who practised every day and won, a sky that clouded over and then rained — you need an ending that carries your eyewitness. -더니 is that ending, and it is also the quiet way to say 'he was like that, but now…'.
Example
동생이 어제는 열이 나더니 오늘은 다 나았어요.
My brother had a fever yesterday, but today he's fully better.
