Tend to be …, on the … side

Taught in Level 3, Unit 1: I tend to be a bit impatient

at Level 2 you could only say what someone IS. Real people are rarely all-or-nothing, and Koreans avoid sounding absolute when they describe someone (including themselves). 편이에요 is the softener: 'on the … side'. You will need it in every description of a person.

  • 저는 아침에 일찍 일어나는 편이에요.

    I tend to get up early in the morning.
