Korean grammar · Level 5
V/A-기에 망정이지 · -(으)니까 망정이지
It's a good thing that … — or else (a narrow escape)
Taught in Level 5, Unit 1: The new lease
you know -(으)ㄹ 뻔하다 for a narrow escape (L3-U08). Often you also want to name what saved you — the friend who warned you, the photo you happened to take. -기에 망정이지 puts the lucky cause first and the disaster that did not happen second.
Example
우산을 챙겼기에 망정이지 다 젖을 뻔했어요.
Good thing I brought an umbrella, or I'd have got soaked.
