Nothing more than … — the humble, formal 'only'

someone accepting a prize makes themselves small — 'I can only be grateful', 'I only did my part'. -(으)ㄹ 따름이다 is the formal, humble 'only', and every Korean acceptance speech has one.

Example

  • 저는 맡은 일을 했을 따름입니다.

    I merely did the job I was given.
