N조차 · N마저 (and N까지, N도)
Even — four particles, four feelings
Taught in Level 4, Unit 9: Words and proverbs
at Level 1 you learnt N도, 'also'. As the topics get heavier, 'also' is no longer enough: 'not even a name', 'even my umbrella broke', 'and on top of that, the wind'. Korean keeps a small family of 'even' particles, and proverbs and complaints are full of them.
Example
너무 바빠서 잠잘 시간조차 없어요.
I'm so busy I don't even have time to sleep.
