It comes to … — summing up
once you can count and compare, the next step is to say what the numbers add up to: 'so, in effect, …'. That is 셈, the word for a tally, and the ending is used every time Koreans sum something up in speech.
Example
일주일에 여섯 번 운동하니까 거의 매일 운동하는 셈이에요.
I exercise six times a week, so it comes to practically every day.
