V-(으)ㄴ 채(로) · V-지 않은 채(로)
Still in that state — keeping a state while something else happens
Taught in Level 5, Unit 11: Nunchi and jeong
Grandma fries pancakes with her arm still in a cast; the young man in 「봄·봄」 stands frozen with his ear still held. To say that a state stays as it is while the next thing happens — often when it should not — Korean uses -(으)ㄴ 채(로).
Example
어젯밤에 텔레비전을 켜 놓은 채로 잠이 들었어요.
Last night I fell asleep with the TV left on.
