Taught in Level 5, Unit 7: Mangwon is trending

a neighbourhood story always has two sides — more visitors, fewer old shops; more customers, the same rent. You know 한편 as a word that opens a sentence (L4-U11) and -는 반면에 for a contrast (L4-U03). Inside one sentence, the paper uses -는 한편 to set a second development beside the first, and -는 데 반해 to make a sharp contrast.

Example

  • 관광객이 늘어나는 한편 주민들의 불편도 커지고 있다.

As visitors increase, residents' inconvenience is growing at the same time.
