V-아/어 버리다
Doing it completely — and it's done
Taught in Level 3, Unit 8: I almost missed the bus
after a near miss the first thing you say is what went wrong — the alarm got switched off, the last hotteok is gone. -아/어 버리다 marks an action as finished and not to be undone, with regret or, sometimes, relief.
Example
마지막 한 개를 먹어 버렸어요.
I ate the very last one.
