V-느니 (차라리)
I'd rather… — choosing the lesser evil
Taught in Level 4, Unit 1: If I won the lottery
this unit keeps weighing choices that are all a little bad — a lottery ticket or hotteok, waiting or walking. When you dislike one option so much that even a poor second option wins, Korean says -느니 차라리: 'rather than X, I'd sooner Y'.
Example
이렇게 한 시간을 기다리느니 차라리 걸어가는 게 낫겠어요.
Rather than wait an hour like this, I'd sooner walk.
